Idaho Foodbank announces million meal campaign

To help Idahoans in need, The Idaho Foodbank has launched a campaign to raise 1 million meals in the month of March

BOISE - Generous Idahoans across the state help those in need all year long, but the truth is, there are lots of donations around the holiday's, but around this time of year, there are far less.

To make sure those in need have enough to get by, Thursday, The Idaho Foodbank launched its “Million Meals in March” campaign.

The goal is to raise $250,000 in the next 31 days, which is enough to generate 1 million meals.

As part of this launch, Winco Foods donated $20,000 worth of food to start that campaign off successfully. That already knocks out nearly 10% of the campaign.

Idaho Foodbank President and CEO Karen Vauk explains why 1 million meals in March is the magic number.

“A million meals is what we are distributing now to meet the number of people that are needing our assistance. That's about 179,000 people in our state, and we are actually providing a little bit more than that, and still trying to reach all the people in need, which is over 200,00," said Vauk.

Also helping the Foodbank reach their goal is Southern Idaho Honda Dealers. They are doing a $20,000 match for financial contributions made to the campaign.
