A special topping-off ceremony was held today at a new Meridian Catholic school.

Over the last two weeks members of the community signed beams for the new St. Ignatius Catholic School being built on Meridian Road.

Those beams, which make up the school's bell tower, were hoisted into place today.

"The area out here in Meridian, we're growing quickly, we have no other Catholic schools close by in the area so we're the first Catholic school in the Treasure Valley to be built in over 50 years,” said Principal Andi Kane. “And just from our own parishioners alone we have tons of interest. We anticipate that we're going to be enrolling somewhere around 200 students just from our parish alone."

St. Ignatius will accommodate 475 students from pre-K through 8th grade. The school will open its doors next August.
