Hillcrest Elementary School unveils ‘all-accessible’ playground

Everyone can play on the new playground at the Boise school, no matter their ability.

BOISE — There is now a playground at Hillcrest Elementary School where everyone gets to play, no matter their ability.

Thursday afternoon, dozens attended a ribbon cutting for the new "all-accessible" playground that's complete with ramps and interactive boards.

Dorothy Bennion is a special education teacher at Hillcrest. She told us how special this is for her students.

“Many of my children are in wheelchairs and so when they come out to recess they can't play, and so this will allow them to get out on the playground and play with the other kids,” Bennion said.

Hillcrest received a grant from the city of Boise for most of the cost of the playground, while the rest was raised or is still being raised through fundraisers.
