BOISE -- A inmate who escaped from a Boise work center nearly two decades ago has been found living under a fake name in South Dakota.
Rhonda L. Blake, 57, was arrested last week at a home in Rapid City. According to the Idaho Department of Correction, Blake has been a fugitive since she walked away from what is now the East Boise Community Reentry Center on Christmas Eve, 1998.
IDOC officials say Blake had been placed on probation for two and a half years in May 1997 for a drug possession charge. At the time of her escape, she was serving a 180-day rider violating probation.
The Idaho Department of Correction's Special Investigations Unit was able to track Blake down 19 years after he escape, and she was taken into custody by Pennington County Sheriff's deputies Nov. 27.
IDOC says that in addition to being a fugitive, Blake was also wanted in connection to a DUI arrest in South Dakota in 2009. When that case is resolved, Blake will be extradited to Idaho to face charges related to her escape.
