A 72-year-old Melba man who was shot by Kuna Police officers last Thursday has been released from the hospital and booked into the Ada County Jail.
Edgar M. Hafen is charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of eluding arrest.
The incident began earlier in the evening when one of Hafen’s family members contacted Canyon County Sheriff’s deputies to say they were concerned he may hurt himself. Deputies found Hafen driving near Melba and attempted to pull him over.
Hafen led deputies and Kuna Police on a chase south of Kuna. The pursuit came to an end around 6:40 p.m. when police used a PIT maneuver to force his vehicle to stop near the intersection of Swan Falls Road and Victory Lane.
Three Kuna Police officers got out of their cars and ordered Hafen to get out of his vehicle. He refused and pointed a handgun at the officers. The officers shot Hafen who dropped his gun out the window.
Hafen was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to a local hospital. None of the officers were injured.
The incident is under investigation by the Critical Incident Task Force.
Investigators are still working to determine how many shots the officers fired and if Hafen fired his gun.
Hafen is being held on $500,000 bond. He will make his first court appearance Wednesday.
