An Ada County grand jury has indicted 61-year-old Bruce Marchant on charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and rape in connection with the death and disappearance of 18-year-old Sierra Bush.

The Ada County prosecuting attorney says the indictment was handed down Tuesday.

Marchant, 61, was arrested in New York City months after Bush's body was found near Idaho City on Oct. 22, 2016.

Sierra, who was also known as Simon, attended Boise State University and was an engineering student. She disappeared from her Boise home last September.

Police say that Marchant was a tenant of Sierra's father. The Boise County coroner said she died from asphyxiation and ruled her death a homicide.

The prosecuting attorney says the case will now head to District Court where Marchant will be arraigned on June 30 at 1:30 p.m.

If convicted, he could face up to life in prison, or the death penalty.
