RUPERT, Idaho - A 25-year-old man was arrested after authorities say gun shots were fired at an Idaho State Police trooper during a chase early Thursday morning in Minidoka County.
According to investigators, at about 12:25 a.m., the trooper tried to stop the driver of a Ford Mustang for numerous traffic violations near the intersection of 300 South and 300 West, just north of Heyburn.
Police say the driver fled north toward toward Rupert, and at some point during the pursuit gun shots were fired from the suspect vehicle.
Neither the trooper nor his police vehicle were struck by the shots. ISP says the trooper was able to successfully maneuver the Mustang to a stop.
Cody L. Hinerman, 25, was taken into custody without incident. Two other adult male passengers were briefly taken into custody, interviewed and released.
Police have not said what charges Hinerman will face.
The shooting is being investigated by the Cassia County Sheriff's Office.
