RIGBY, Idaho -- A Rigby couple is facing the potential of decades in prison after they were accused of sexually exploiting a 4- or 5-year-old girl.
Joseph Lavern Harris, 30, and Elizabeth Dawn Evans, 27, were indicted on the charges March 27, according to the U.S. Attorney Office for the District of Idaho.
According to the indictment, between December 2017, and February 25, 2018, Harris and Evans made the girl "take part in sexually explicit conduct" in order to take photos or video of the sexual acts. The victim, who was born in 2013, knew the suspects, according to court documents.
Investigators seized a cell phone allegedly connected to the crime. Both suspects pleaded not guilty on Friday.
The Department of Homeland Security and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case.
Harris and Evans are set for trial June 4. If convicted, they each face a minimum of 15 years in prison.
