BOISE -- A Boise man accused of abusing his 1-year-old stepson over the course of several months is behind bars.
Robert Lee Dougal, 36, was arrested at his home Thursday on a felony charge of injury to a child.
According to the Ada County Sheriff's Office, the investigation began after a different family member brought the baby to a hospital Sept. 12. Deputies say the child had "extensive bruising" on his head, face, neck and back.
The 1-year-old was declared to be in "imminent danger" and taken into the custody of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare the next day. The boy is currently living with a foster family, according to the sheriff's office.
Detectives investigating the case found evidence that Dougal had repeatedly abused the boy over the past several months. A warrant was issued for his arrest Wednesday.
Dougal is held in the Ada County Jail on a $100,000 bond, and is due in court Friday afternoon. If convicted, he could face up to a decade in prison.
