BOISE -- A Boise man is facing arson charges after police say he set fire to a fence outside an apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Officers were called out to the complex in the 5300 block of Kootenai Street at about 9 a.m. Officers arrived and found 32-year-old Nicholas Gonring, who lived in one of the units.

Investigators say they found evidence that Gonring had used gasoline to light the fence on fire, badly damaging it. Gonring had put out the flames with a fire extinguisher by the time officers arrived, police say.

Police say they believe the fire was started intentionally, but Gonring's motivations are unclear. He was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on one count of felony first-degree arson.

Gonring is due to appear in court Wednesday afternoon. If convicted of arson, he could face a sentence up to 25 years in prison.
