BOISE - A 20-year-old Boise man is behind bars on a pair of felony charges after police say he crashed a stolen car in Garden City early Wednesday morning.
The incident began at about 2:30 a.m. when Boise police officers spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Moscow.
Police attempted a traffic stop as the driver - later identified as Colby Sage - slowed in front of a home, but investigators say he refused to stop, and instead drove away. Officers opted not to pursue the vehicle.
A short time later, Garden City police reported seeing Sage driving west on Chinden Boulevard at a high rate of speed into oncoming traffic. Moments later, Sage lost control of the car, crashing it near the intersection of Chinden and 44th Street, police said.
Officers rushed to the scene, finding the vehicle on its side with smoke coming out of it, possibly on fire. Police say Sage was able to escape the burning car. He was taken into custody while police used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
Sage was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries. He was later booked into the Ada County Jail on felony charges of grand theft and eluding police.
