Keepin' it Local: Flour Child's baked treats take the cake

Emilee Rivers calls herself an "edible artist," and when you see her creations you'll understand why.

When it comes to satisfying a sweet tooth, just about anything in Emilee Rivers' shop "Flour Child" will do the trick.

From sugar flowers, to layered cookies, to cupcakes, to custom cakes, Emilee does it all. She calls herself an "edible artist," and when you see her creations you'll understand why.

Rivers says Flour Child grew really popular during its first wedding season because of the custom touches she is able to put on them. She says the most popular is the tree stump cake which, you guessed it, looks like a tree stump in the middle of the woods. Complete with edible moss (made out of sugar crumbled sugar cookies), pine cones, and twigs.

As you can imagine, these cakes and desserts take time. Rivers says for one wedding she spent 30 hours straight just frosting small square cakes for each guest! I told her that her cakes look almost too good to eat, and it wasn't really a surprise that many people have already said that to her.

Flour Child is located at 10668 W. Overland Road in Boise.
