This recipe is as easy as it is fun! The whole wheat pita serves as a ready-to-use crust. The kids just spread on the sauce, shredded cheese and then make a face using toppings. They’ll be sitting down to their personalized pizza faster than you can order a pizza!

Total Time: 20 minutes


4 whole wheat pitas, about 6-inches wide
1/2 cup pizza sauce (prepared pesto sauce can be substituted)
1 1/3 cups shredded Lucerne® part-skim mozzarella (more if desired)
Assorted topping to make faces:
Zucchini slices (cut widthwise)
Broccoli floret tops (used for hair or eyebrows)
Olive slices (for eyes)
Green, red, yellow bell peppers cut into shapes and strips
Fresh basil (for hair)
Cherry or grape tomato slices (for eyes or noses)
Servings: 4 pita pizzas


1. Preheat oven to 400-degrees. Line a cookie sheet with foil.
2. Kids can place their pitas on the foil and use a tablespoon measure to spread his or her sauce on each pita (about 2 tablespoons per pita). With clean hands, kids then sprinkle each pita with about 1/3 cup of the shredded cheese.
3. With several bowls in front of the child, filled with the various toppings, kids can decorate the pizza faces.
4. Parents bake the pitas for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling! Once they are cooled to a safe temperature, the kids can dig in.
