BOISE, Idaho – In the final scrimmage of the fall, the Boise State offense got redemption against the Bronco defense.
Runningback Malcolm Johnson and quarterback Grant Hedrick both found the endzone on the ground, while quarterback Joe Southwick's 66-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Geraldo Boldewijn helped propel the offense to a 26-20 victory on Saturday at Bronco Stadium.
Johnson, a redshirt sophomore, led the Broncos with 10 carries and 41 yards, and scored on a nine-yard run.
Hedrick - a redshirt freshman - picked up 26 yards on seven carries, including a three-yard touchdown. He also was nearly perfect through the air, completing 9-of-10 passes for 97 yards.
Senior quarterback Kellen Moore completed 7-of-12 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Each touchdown came during a red zone session and did not count in the scoring summary. Redshirt sophomore tight end Gabe Linehan caught a 30-yard touchdown from Moore, and redshirt junior wide receiver Mitch Burroughs caught a 12-yard scoring strike. On the other side of the ball, defensive ends Kharyee Marshall and Jarrell Root, as well as linebacker Blake Renaud each recorded one, while defensive tackle David Cushing and defensive lineman Beau Martin combined for another.
Boise State is slated to open the 2011 season against Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, Sept. 3 in Atlanta, Georgia.
