How do you feel about the H-Bowl now being named "The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl"?
BOISE -- It's on our license plates, next to our burgers, and now, Idaho's most famous crop will grace the 50 yard line at Bronco Stadium for the annual bowl game held in Boise every December.
Ever since its debut in 1997, the Humanitarian Bowl has been playing hot potato with its title sponsor. First it was Crucial.com, then it was MPC Computers. After that it became Roady's Truck Stops, before uDrove came along and signed a four-year deal.
But, with yet another name change is store, those that came up with it believe the spec-taters will love it.
The Idaho Potato Commission will be the new title sponsor and the name of the bowl will be the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The naming rights will take place this year and run through at least 2016. Wednesday, the executive director of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, Kevin McDonald, said he felt like there was "no better product to represent the state of Idaho than the potato."
Afterward, McDonald also talked about the future of the Bowl and the conferences it is affiliated with. Currently, the game will be tied to the WAC and MAC for the next three years.
The Idaho Potato Commission Famous Idaho Potato Bowl will be played on Saturday, December 17 at Bronco Stadium in Boise. The game will be televised on ESPN.
