SALEM, Ore. - A Newberg man is behind bars after Salem and Portland police and the Marion County sheriff's deputies linked him through surveillance videos to three thefts.
Charles Lord Chaffee, 55, is alleged to have taken 30 to 35 pieces of gold in late August from a jewelry case at Barkley's Buy-Sell Pawn Shop in Woodburn.
Salem police allege that he stole about $6,800 worth of jewelry Wednesday after reaching into a display case.
Portland police have charged Chaffee first-degree aggravated theft. Details of that theft were not available but an attentive Salem investigator contacted Portland police after recognizing Chaffee from a video released by the bureau.
Chaffee is in the Marion County jail on accusations of first-degree theft, identity theft, carrying a concealed weapon and felon in possession of a weapon.
