Former coach killed in bizarre bowling accident

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A former coach at Clark College in Vancouver died in a freak accident while bowling with friends.

Erik Anderson, 38, was killed Thursday morning while trying to fix a lane malfunction at the Lair Student Center bowling alley. Investigators said he was teaching a bowling class with around 25 students when the accident occurred. A maintenance worker found his body.

Anderson was currently working for Spokane Community College and was very popular among students and staff. He was the head cross country coach since 2004 and had worked at SCC for 12 years. Students and staff who knew Anderson described him as a great man.

Anderson coached track at Clark College in Vancouver before moving to Spokane.

Anderson leaves behind a wife and two children. The college is offering grief counseling for students and faculty members.
